Citizenship application

What Canadian citizenship means

Any immigrant who is granted Canadian citizenship is to be referred to as a citizen of Canada. This indicates that whatever privileges or rights a Canadian citizen has, the newly inaugurated citizen will also have access to them. A Canadian passport and the right to vote are two benefits of citizenship over permanent residency.

Only those who are already permanent residents can apply to become Canadian citizens. You can submit an application for citizenship after having lived in Canada for at least 1,095 days in the previous five years.

Why get it?

There are so many benefits to enjoy with Canadian citizenship, some of which are:

Right to vote

Canadian citizenship entitles you to vote at the federal, provincial, or municipal levels. At various levels of government, you actually have the ability to run for office and the right to receive votes.

Dual citizenship

In order to become a citizen of Canada, you do not have to give up your citizenship in your home nation. If you want, you can have both.

Canadian passport

You can renew your passport more quickly if you have a Canadian passport than if you have a permanent resident card. When you need a visa, this passport will also make it easier for you to get one quickly.

Automatic children's citizenship

Children born in Canada to parents who are citizens of that country automatically acquire Canadian citizenship. If their parents were born in Canada, even those who were born abroad would be eligible to apply for citizenship.

Right to do any Canadian job

Due to the sensitivity of the job, not every Canadian is suitable for every position. Therefore, having citizenship gives you the ability to find employment and receive pay on par with others.

Citizenship Application Eligibility

Any immigrant striving to become a Canadian citizen must first provide the following:

Writing and speaking ability in one of Canada's official languages (English and French).

Once the application is submitted, they must demonstrate that they have become a permanent resident.

Must have lived in Canada for a minimum of 1,095 days within the last five years prior to applying.

Provide three years of tax filing proof.

Before processing their application, they must pay all outstanding income taxes.

The IRCC will deny your application to proceed to the next level if you submit it without attaching your proficiency in French and English.

In addition, any applicant who has served in the Canadian Armed Forces prior to the application can expedite the process and become a citizen sooner than others. A residence calculator can help a candidate determine whether they are eligible to apply for Citizenship. It also assists candidates who have not met the required living period in determining when they will become eligible. Some people have Canadian citizenship without realising it because their parent is a citizen. In this case, all that is required is to apply for proof of citizenship in order to avoid the Citizenship programme.

If the applicant has served time in jail, been convicted, or is currently serving a service sentence, he or she cannot be granted Canadian citizenship.
