PR Card Renewals
When the card expires in 9 months or has already expired, an application for a permanent resident renewal is expected. The validity of a new one is five years, giving you plenty of time to plan for a subsequent renewal.
Who is Eligible for a PR Card Renewal?
You must have been a permanent resident of Canada for the required amount of time in order to be qualified to apply for a permanent resident card renewal. To replace a lost, stolen, or damaged card, you can apply for a PR card. Or you can replace the old card with a new one.
Eligibility for PR Card Renewal
You must meet the following requirements in order to renew your PR card:
- A person who lives in Canada permanently.
- Be present in Canada physically.
- Not in violation of a valid removal order.
- Free from any type of criminal conviction.
- Neither a citizen nor an Indian as defined by the Indian Act.
- Showing evidence of a stolen or lost PR card (if applicable).
How to apply for PR Card Renewal?
You must complete an application consisting of a form IMM 5444e and the necessary documents in order to renew your PR card. The following documents are necessary:
Expired PR card
Your initial PR card has already expired or will do so soon. You may keep your card if it is about to expire until a new one is issued.
Passport
You must submit a copy of your passport to the office. For the photocopy to be accepted, it must be clear.
Photos
You must adhere to certain photo requirements before submitting any copies. You can find more details in the appendix.
